The Task Before Us

weedy allotment plotThis is the new bit of our allotment, the bit that Ed wants to grow pumpkins on. As you can see we've a big job ahead of us to clear all this in time for the growing season.

Yeah, but think of the potential.

I wouldn't worry too much about clearing all of this - the pumpkins can do that for you! All you need to do is clear some circles into which you add some good soil and plant your seeds into. The pumpkins will quickly overgrow your grass. Or, if you wanted to go a step further, you could cover the grassy areas with a thin layer of newspaper topped with mulch and let the pumpkin ramble over the mulched area.

I love your blog. I've shared it with many of my family members. I've tagged you on my blog, too. You can see it at http://www.easyecoliving.org/2007/12/random-facts-meme-from-patrick.html

Great idea, you probably won't even have to clear it much. You could just empty a compost bin straight onto the bit you want to use and put your little plantlings on top of their own little mounds. The grass underneath will just disappear.
Obviously, if you really enjoy all that digging.....
