Eddie Izzard - Covered In Bees

Thanks to Hedgewizard for finding this YouTube clip of comic Eddie Izzard talking about beekeeping. My sister Lindsey and her husband Andrew keep quoting this at me every time I mention bees, but I'd never seen the clip before. Now I know what they're going on about.

and I like my sister-in-law like I like my coffee....covered in beeeeeees!!!

Ok we'll stop now!

anyway, if you reckon you know what me and Lindsey are talking about then we can't have been trying hard enough!!

Even as a non-bee aficionado, though, I have to admit to being fascinated to find out how you are actually meant to relocate a hive full of bees. At the moment I can't think of any method which wouldn't endanger either yourselves or the bees during transport?

You wait until all the bees have gone to bed for the night, then block up the entrancehole to the hive, strap the hive together really well so it doesn't fall apart in transit letting the bees out, then drive home with it quite slowly, whilst wearing a bee suit.

The danger to the bees is from overheating, so you put a mesh screen on top of the hive for ventilation, and pour a cupful of water over the bees every now and then. It dribbles all over the combs and the bees suck it up, which helps to keep them cool.

When you've got it home and in situ, you leave it alone for a while for the bees to settle down, then you unblock the entrance hole and run like buggery.

One of my favourite sketches by one of my favourite comedians. :-)

I also love Eddie Izzard. Great observation comedy, and fantastic eye make-up tips, all in one show. What a guy.

...pointing randomly into the air and saying "Back off. Back off. Back off. Back off."... :-)
