Visited by the Garlic Fairy

I've been visited by the garlic fairy - a box labelled "Garlic Lover's Growing Pack" arrived today containing 10 bulbs of 7 varieties of garlic for planting. It also contains instructions for planting and growing, and a recipe leaflet. It comes from The Garlic Farm, but I didn't order it. I suspect my dad. Own up now. Are you the garlic fairy? Thanks anyway, whoever it was.

I'm going to have to be more organised than usual and clearly label each variety as I plant them. I usually know what sort of veg I've planted where (although not always), but I don't always note which variety. All these types of garlic are supposed to have different characteristics, and I'd like to compare them to decide which grew best, which tastes best, and which I'd like to plant again in future.

I got one of these last year and has a bumper crop in June. I still have lots of bulbs left. In fact, the Garlic Lover's Pack produced just too much for just me and my wife, so I've ordered less this year - just 5 bulbs. Unfortunately, I was on a different planet when I picked the garlic and managed to mix all the varieties up, so I'm not sure which were which. However, I really do like the easy peel ones (which I think are the Iberian whites), so that's what I re-ordered this year.

Wow, and just in time for Halloween. No worries about vampires at your place. ;-)

Hmmm..... well you do know a certain somebody (name witheld to protect the guilty...) who writes an ironic fictional blog about lesbian roleplaying vampires..... that is, you've been THINKING that it was fictional...... !!!

Let's just say if you find some pallid leatherclad woman knocking on your door after sunset wanting to know if she can borrow a d20, DON'T be inviting her in, and make sure you've got a garlic baguette to hand to chase her up the drive with....!!!

We've had a lot of success with growing garlic from The Garlic Farm, much more so than with garlic sourced from other suppliers. However, this year's order still hasn't arrived and we're fast running out of time to get it planted.

I know it takes them up to a month to get an order out, but as the season steadily move on it does make me start getting twitchy. The joys of gardening!
