Tyre Pressure Challenge Poll Results

The results for the tyre pressure challenge were as follows:

I've gone green! I will keep my tyres correctly pressurised. 25% (3 votes)
I was already green! I always have kept my tyres pressurised. 41.67% (5 votes)
I don't accept your argument! I like driving on marshmallows. 8.33% (1 vote)
I'm greener than thou! I only ever travel on foot or by cycle. 25% (3 votes)

I had difficulty finding research about the effect of tyre pressure on fuel efficiency, and what I did find showed that it has only a small effect. But it's still worth keeping your tyres pressurised for your own safety, and to extend the life of your tyres.

This month's challenge is to turn down your home thermostat and save money and energy heating your home. In the UK it's still unseasonably warm, and quite possible to be comfortable with only a low level of heating in the home.

Blimey Mel, we've only just turned it on, and we already have it as low as we can stand it. John's always complaining about being cold as it is!

It may have been unseasonably warm yesterday, right up until I had to sit shivering on Leeds station for a long time, but there was a frost last night and it's suffin cold today!

That's great, Geri. Click the "I was already green" button and give yourself a pat on the back. The polls are usually about things I know I could do better, such as the tyre pressure and the standby challenges. This one was prompted by my surprising research findings on those challenges. Turning down your thermostat seems like a straightforward way to save energy, but I wonder how the research will turn out.

We've had our first frosty mornings here but by the afternoon it's been sunny and warm. This weekend I'll be clearing the allotment of all the plants killed by the frost.

Hmm. How cool is green I wonder? Our rule of thumb is that if you don't need a jumper on, it's too warm (unless you're near the logburner of course). We're down to 19C on the main thermo, with the thermostat valves on the radiators leaving some rooms a degree warmer. I should mention that these valves can be a real saving over time, since you get some control over the temperature of each room.

P'raps you can help me work it out now that we've had our first frosts. Parsnips - lift, or leave? A couple of the ones I pulled on Sunday had brown patches on them...

Don't ask me about parsnips, Hedgie. As far as I'm concerned you're just showing off that you got the buggers to germinate in the first place.
