I'll Be Just Fine, Says Planet

The EarthFunny story from the satirical website The Daily Mash.

The Earth spoke out after a series of books, television programmes and environmental campaigns urged people to do everything in their power to 'Save the Planet'.

Earth, 4,000,000,000, said last night: "I'll be absolutely fine, seriously. I might get a bit warmer and a bit wetter, but to be honest, that actually sounds quite nice."

The planet said environmental campaigners should change their slogan from 'Save the Planet' to something more relevant such as 'Save Your Sorry Arse'.

As you may have spotted, the article contains some swearing. That said, if you want to read the whole story it's here: I'LL BE JUST FINE, SAYS PLANET

That planet piece was really good. And so very true. I had to search the site because the link did not take me to the planet story. Anyway, one question if I may. What is an "ex-council house"?

Thanks for pointing out the problem with the links, equa yona. I've fixed it now.

A council house is an example of public housing or social housing. Are those terms more familiar to you? I'm not sure what terminology is used in other countries than the UK. Council houses are built by local government authorities for the benefit of the local population.

An ex-council house is a house that used to be a council house but was bought by the tenant and is now privately owned. We bought this house from the previous occupant, not from the council. It may have been through several owners since it was bought from the council. Many of the other houses in our street are now privately owned, but many are still owned by the council.

I mention it in the description of this blog to emphasise that we do not live in a huge smallholding, or a big house with an enormous garden. We're not extremely wealthy, although we're by no means poor. We're very ordinary, and we live in a very ordinary house, so whatever we can do to live more sustainably should also be acheivable for other ordinary people in similar circumstances.

It is worth noting that 1930's council houses are quite spacious and on generous plots (as was the trend in the 30s), larger than a modern private house of comparable bedrooms. So it isn't always true to say that council houses are small.

Start laughing ~ I'm an "Archers" fan ~ no TV, so that's my soap. Over here I get the episodes sent as synopses & 1 storyline threw up the following link:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/archers/backstage/transition.shtml
I wasn't aware that it started over here :)

In Guernsey they were called "State Housing" & were rare ~ people would start off on housing group waiting lists & progress up from 1 bed flats often with shared kitchen & bathroom to the State Housing. & that was the locals, outsiders were allowed to buy on the local market IF they had a licence held from their work, or on the millionaire Open Market. (We lived in an attic above the school where s taught.)

Earth day is very important to me and I did my part to show my support for a cleaner environment.
Following Earth Day, I am still trying to find some easy, simple things I can do to help stop global warming. Have you seen the www.EarthLab.com is promoting their Earth Day (month) challenge, with the goal to get 1 million people to take their carbon footprint test in April? I took the test, it was easy and only took me about 2 minutes and I am planning on lowering my score with some of their tips.
I am always looking for places to find more tips for living more environmentally friendly. If you know of any other sites worth my time let me know.
