Knitting With Cats

Knitting with a kitten in the house is tricky. When he's not trying to catch the ends of my knitting needles, he's playing with the balls of yarn.

My mum taught me the solution to this problem. Pop the ball of yarn into a container with a hole cut in the lid. Mum used margarine tubs but I'm using an ice-cream tub. The tub needs to be big enough for the ball to move and unwind itself. Cut a hole in the lid and feed the end of the yarn through, then knit as usual.

Kittens aren't the only problem with knitting ~ small childer & puppies can be a trial too. Annon's pup runs off with my yarn & I can find my knitting anywhere. When the older dogs were younger I'd been given a sack of yarn from a shop where it wasn't selling ~ I'm still sorting the mess out, nearly 2 years later! We came home to find the balls of wool ALL round the kitchen ~ they'd played "In & Out the Dusty Tullips" with every ball of wool. Yarn & furnture were separated , but not each individual ball of yarn from the others. It happened because I got in from shopping, then had to walk to collect Annon from school, walk home, feed her then turn round & return to the village for her dance class. The food was put away, but not the sack of yarn...

You do have a gorgeous kit ~ a bit like our Scrappy ~ Tara wants your kit as HER bedtime snuggle ~ Scraps sleeps curled up with Piri usually

What a great idea, even if it does spoil their fun! You could always set up another margarine container and yarn just for the cat's entertainment.

My grandmother used to use a heavy upturned terracotta flowerpot.

Oh, just look at that sweet, innocent little face on that kitten. Butter wouldn't melt, would it.
"/Me/? When would /I/ ever chase your wool?" *g*
