As promised - "before" and "after" shots of the scary jungle area. There's still more work to do - more manure to shovel over all the plack weed supressing membrane, the final strip in the background still to be strimmed, cleared, membraned and manured, and then we can plant all our pumpkins and squash in it. But we've made a heck of a lot of progress already and it's looking much better.

Wow! Looks great! I assume the membrane you put down decomposes? Or will you have to remove it at ssome point? Hard to tell from the picture.
My goodness, ya'll worked your tails off! If I start up a batch of ginger beer, will you come do my yard? ;-)
Amazing work, I would love to have a garden that big. Well, not right now, but some day! Can't wait to see pics of your pumpkins.
Yeah, I was watching a programme about orize winning pumkins last night and they were enormous. One was 90 odd pounds in weight. I could almost have curled up and sat inside it, it was so big.
Wow, that looks like a lot of work. I hope the pumpkins repay you with a great harvest. Good for you.
Hooray! Looks loads better - well done!
Excluding light really will kill weeds off, I promise. Even bindweed and couch. If you find any after a year then you'll also find the places where the membrane has come off somehow and left gaps.
I was also wondering if your membrane decomposes though? That's why I've been using cardboard.
Crikey, you've been busy. Looks much better.
That looks like a lot of hard work! But isn't it satisfying when you can stand back at the end of the day and see the results of all your hard work. Virgin soil like that produces great results in the first year, I look forward to seeing the fruts (and veggies) of your labour.
That is so impressive!! I wish I could have gotten mine looking like that!!
ahhhh, much better
